Role Summary/Purpose:

• A Metal Fabrication foreman is responsible for overseeing the work and interacting with production engineer & prefabrication engineer to ensure a smoothly run job throughout the work day.

Essential Responsibilities:

• Supervises and coordinates activities of workers engaged in fabrication and assembly of structural steel products, applying knowledge of layout, product design, machine function, capacities and output, properties of metal, and strength of materials.
• Analyzes work orders and DWG to determine information, such as material to be used, type of operations, and sequence of operations required.
• Requisitions tools, fixtures, and material.
• Examines defective machinery to determine cause of malfunction and reports need for machine repairs.
• Trains workers in fabrication to understand DWG & calculation.
• Sets up and operates machines to make test runs and experimental products.
• Inspects work in progress and finished products.
• Performs other duties as described under production Engineer.
• Knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, geometry and their applications.

Qualifications/Requirements:

Academic Qualification:

• Graduation from a standard high school or vocational school, and considerable experience as a journeyman steel worker, including some supervisory experience; or any equivalent combination of training and experience.

Professional Qualification:

• Additional education may include specialized trainings, professional certifications, workshops and seminars relevant to industry.

Skills:

• Thorough knowledge of the tools, equipment, materials, and practices employed in the sheet metal trades.
• Thorough knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions of the trade.
• Ability to estimate labor and materials costs.
• Ability to supervise the work of steel structure workers and helpers.
• Ability to understand and effectively carry out complex oral and written instructions, including the interpretation of drawings, sketches, and blue prints.
• Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with personnel of other departments.
• Ability to communicate clearly and concisely in writing and orally.
• Skill in the use and care of equipment and tools of the sheet metal trade.
